Totally! I'm glad you understand. Every time some elder asks me what he can do for me, I say he can leave me alone and that I know where the KH is so know where to go if I want to talk to them. Then another one tries. There's just one in the cong who hasn't contacted me and I wonder if they're saving him up. It's a shame, because I really enjoyed going witnessing with that last one.

Elder left a calling card - what's with that?
by Julia Orwell inhe called me a week or two ago offering 'assistance' and told me he'd pop by some time with 'a packet of biscuits' and i told him to ring before he came so as not to show up unannounced.
we went out yesterday, and this morning i find a little business card-sized calling card obviously printed up on ms word and cut with scissors.
on it is printed, "sorry i missed you," and has his name and number, and the scripture from romans saying something about an interchange of encouragement.. pretty inoccuous right?

People who pioneer on government assistance
by ilikecheese ini had a chat with my boyfriend about this, and he said that he knows quite a few pioneers who are capable of working but prefer to pioneer with government assistance.
his thought was, "well, it's kind of bad, but at least they're doing something useful/good with their time.
" i know from reading this board that it's a pretty widespread thing.

I found Centrelink's number (Australia's agency for these things) online but I know I'd have to wait on hold forever and a day. Also, I sort of feel bad about wanting to dob her in. She used to be a friend, until she gave me such a harangue on Facebook and declared she must unfriend me because she could no longer tolerate my liberal views on other people's religion!!! So she really cut me, and to denounce her would feel like revenge.

In Australia if you're unemployed and on unemployment (Newstart, or 'the dole') you have to do a zillion different things that show you're looking and applying for work. Disability pension on the other hand is once you get it, and it's hard to get, you're on it. If you work more than 8 hours a week and report it to the social security office, Centrelink, they will take you off it as they will then deem you able to work. I really should denounce that sister. She was so horrid to me on facebook.

The self-made PARADOX of "witnessing" without Television or Radio
by Terry inwhat if i asserted the following as true?
the watchtower bible and tract society has no interest in an effective evangelical program of conversion.. .
would that sound silly?

Witnessing d2d also serves the purpose of keeping people busy. Keeping the r&f busy is a classic cult tactic because it consumes their time and energy, keeps them surrounded by the propaganda and exposes them to the pressure of the group, and also eats up time that could be spent reflecting and researching.

Hey yes, now you mention it Wha Happened, I've heard that too...there's a saying round here that the best way to find a job is to start pioneering. So in practice, the rule about you supporting yourself is not adhered to.

Pretty inoccuous right? But for some reason it really stressed me out. I was explaining to my husband and he said, "It's just a card..." and I got all tangled up trying to explain that I told them to leave me alone and how come no one else from the congregation calls or visits, just the elders?
I want to explain to him how even a little card like that is part of the hounding and control, but can't muster the right words. Mind you, my husband has stopped attending meetings too, but I think it's because he doesn't want me to stress out. And he's growing a beard and hasn't had a haircut.

Generally if you're on an unemployment benefit your pioneer application won't be accepted I believe. I know people on old age pensions who pioneer, which I think is fine because they've retired after years of paying taxes. I know some who pioneer on the disability pension though, which is terrible, because if you can spend 18 hours a week in field service, you can spend 18 hours a week in a job!

Soliciting for money on this site is NOT acceptable
by Simon inpming other members of this site asking for money is unacceptable and will not be tollerated under any circumstances, especially if it seems like you are targeting someone who seems to be especially kind and maybe a little old.
that is low.. if you do this, you will be classified as a scammer and your account deleted.
i don't care what the reasons given are.. if someone offers money then fine although i'd warn anyone against falling for sob-stories they read on the internet.
